chapter 7 part 2

  1. Describe the setting.The setting in this chapter is when they are in the train getting transported to another camp
  2. 2.What do you think elie meant when he said, “ to die today or tomorrow. What is the difference?”I think he meant to to just give up today and die or survive another day and die tomorrow.
  3. 3.If his father was to die, do you think elie would have the motivation to live? I think he would come close to giving up but well still have a little bit of motivation left to survive
  4. 4.What did the people do with the dead bodies? Slide 2The people took the clothes off the dead bodies and threw them off the train into the snow.

chapter 7

  1. How did Elie again help his father when they were on the train?Slide 2He tried waking him up he slapped him and he woke up before the other people got the chance to throw him off.

    If i was in Elie's father position i would be depressed. If i was Elie's father i would feel like i have failed but i did not i tried, would feel like i was about to die. I would react slow to things my thoughts would be different. I am struggling to survive and cant provide my son everything that he needs.

  1. How was the ride, comfortable? Describe. The ride was jammed packed dead people on people living, it was hard to get a breath of air it smelled liked dead carcass.

  4. Describe Madame Schachlter, what was she like in the cart? Madame schachlter was depressed and just broke down when she was separated from her family, On the third night she screamed "Fire! I can see fire! I can see fire!

chapter 8 part 2


  1. What fascinated Elie,why? why the boy wanted to ditch his father

  2. 2.Was it easy to take showers, describe? It wasnt easy to take shower becuase the ss officers lost controll of every thing so you had to get in on your own and get there quick.

  3. 3.Describe how the father is now, what can you say about his spirit and his will to live, how has it changed? His father is growing weaker and weaker by the minute his spirit is dying out and losing will to live before he was struggiling to live and just kept on going.

  4. 4.Why does elie mean he says, “ I felt that I as not arguing with him, but with death itself.”?

  5. 5.Why was elie ashamed of? What was he thinking about? elie was ashamed of the thought that he had of leaving his father and just letting him die alone.

  6. 6.Why didn’t father eat anything? He wasnt hungry he just wanted to rest and something to drink.

  7. 7.Describe what is happening to Elie’s father. His father is growing weak and is dying slowly.

  8. 8.How are you suppose to live in a concentration camp? You are supposed to live in a concentration camp like your the only person that you have to worry about and not care about anyone but you.

chapter 4 vocabulary

lividly: bluish or discolored as a result of bruising,very pale, especially unnaturally so

Exp: He had a lividly color after he threw up at the party.


Hoisting:To raise or lift somebody or something up, especially using a mechanical device such as a winch

Exp: He got hurt from his friend hoisting wood from the roof then fell on him.

Exp: The hole city was savage during the earthquake all the stores were broken into and the cops were lootin to.

chapter 4 questions


1. The person in charge of the tent was well built and he looked kind he took an interest in them and gave orders for them to be brought food.

3.They need to stay in quarantine to make sure that they have no diseases or that they are not sick so that they will not get any one else sick.

11. No the dentist did not get what he wanted he wanted to get his gold croen but he was killed before he got it.
12. Elie walked in on Idek and then Elie was punished for that he was whipped.
13. The girl was Juliek and she gave him advice for that he will feel better.
14. I think that he had no pitty for his dad because he was used to what happend and had seen worse.
15. He lost his gold crown because the officer saw it and told him that he had to take it out.
16.His consequence was that he was whipped.

Chapter 3 vocabulary

6.Humanity-all human beings collectively; the human race. Ex. Humanity is set to experience changes of unimaginable proportions in the year 2012.
7.Convulsively-to shake violently; agitate. Ex. Prisoners of war often shake convulsively at night when they are thinking about the atrocities of war and of losing friends.
8.Wreaths-any ringlike, curving, or curling mass or formation. Ex. During the Nazi regime, Jewish bodies were arranged in giant wreaths at concentration camps.
9.Nocturnal-done, occurring, or coming at night. Ex. Owls and bats are a few examples of nocturnal animals.
10.Bestial-without reason or intelligence; brutal; inhuman. Ex. Jewish extermination was a bestial example of how to create fair and cleansed society.
11.Threshold-any place or point of entering or beginning. Ex. The threshold to the house was painted over with a beautiful mural.
12.Lucidity-easily understood; completely intelligible or comprehensible. Ex. The instruction on how to set up the computer programming system had a great deal of lucidity.
13.Oblivion-the state of being completely forgotten or unknown. Ex. The man threatened to blast the other man into oblivion if he did not hand over his wallet and car keys.
14.Harangued-a scolding or a long or intense verbal attack; diatribe. Ex. The harangued speech that McCarthy directed towards many of the federal government’s employees resulted in an official censure of his credibility.
15.Convalescent-to recover health and strength after illness; make progress toward recovery of health. Ex. The convalescent young man took only a few weeks to recover from his leg injury.
16.Colic-pertaining to or affecting the colon or the bowels. Ex. The colic infection was not as serious as the woman initially thought.
17.Clout-a blow, esp. with the hand; cuff. Ex. The bully gave him a painful clout on the head.
18.Reverie-a state of dreamy meditation or fanciful musing. Ex. The young soul experienced a rather enjoyable reverie of the times of the 1960s counterculture and its drug use.
19.Compulsory-required; mandatory; obligatory. Ex. The compulsory movement that the boy made when his foster mother tried to hug him was due to the fact that his birth mother used to beat him on a daily basis.
20.Disperse-to drive or send off in various directions; scatter. Ex. Different types of birds disperse long distances on a seasonal basis.


Chapter 3 questions



1.The ride was almost unbearable. Thirst was torturing all of the deportees, and the heat was tremendous. People were even having sexual intercourse in the midst of the darkness of the car.
2.The Hungarian interpreter told the Jewish deportees that they were under the authority of the German army. He also told them that all of their valuable possessions should be given
up, and that anyone discovered to have kept something will be shot on the spot.
3.If someone is found to be missing, each and every one of the remaining Jews will be shot
like dogs.
4.Madam Schachter was about 50-years-old, and was a quiet woman with tense, burning eyes. While in the cart, she began to lose her mind. She was constantly screaming that she saw a fire, a terrible fire. However, no one believed her and many of the men gagged her and
tied her up so that she would cause anymore annoyance.
5.Madam Schachter scream “Fire! I can see a fire! I can see a Fire.” This meant that she was foreshadowing the horrible fates that awaited most of the Jewish prisoners at the concentration camp. Some how she knew about the burnings of the people, and she was
warning everyone else in the cart.
6.Her screams shocked all of the other deportees. They trembled from it. People began to
think she was crazy, and even went as far as to gag and tie her up.
7.They arrived at Auschwitz. The largest, deadliest concentration camp during the Holocaust.
8.There was a labor camp. Conditions were good. Families would not be split up. Only the young people would go to work in the factories. The old men and invalids would be kept occupied in the fields. The barometer of confidence for the Jews was soaring initially. The
camp was a sudden release from the terrors of the previous nights.
9.Madam Schachter was still screaming of the fires and a German officer was called by the man I charge of their cart. He suggested that she be taken to the hospital, and the German
officer told him that she will be going there shortly.
10.Through the windows they could see barbed wire. They saw a tall chimney in which flames were gushing out of. There was an abominable odor floating around in the air, which
smelt of burnt flesh and bone.
11.An image that would represent this chapter would be one including a picture of
Auschwitz, and the smoke coming from the chimneys of the crematories.
