chapter 9 questions

What is the significance of the book's final image, Wiesel's face, reflected in a mirror?

He writes that a corpse gazed back at him, with a look that has never left him. What aspects of him died during his ordeal? I think some aspects that left him were sorrow and pain because he felt so much of those that he just got used to it and just lived on without pain and hunger.

What aspects were born in their place? What do you make of his observation that among the men liberated with him, not one sought revenge? I think they didn't want to get revenge because they were just glad that they survived every thing and came out alive.

What is the symbolism of the word "night" in the book? I think it means that all that he went threw and all the hope he had it was still dark and painful.

How is Elie’s moral struggle an important element of Night? How he put up with everything his father, the ss officers, not going without food, and knowing that his father is dead. Eli went threw so much bs that it is crazy he is a strong young boy loving his father all the way to the end and not beating the SS officers down.

Why do you think survivors often feel guilty? I think they feel guilty for surviving the holocaust and seeing family members die, they think why them why did i survive the holocaust.

What hints of hope does Elie offer us? He never gave up on his father even tho he was holding eli down and going on without food he went threw a lot and still did not give up even tho there was so many times he could have died.

Why is this book relevant today? It shows a persons view and struggle during the holocaust and what they had to go threw seeing close ones die while they just sat there not being able to do nothing but try to survive.

REflect, think about this based upon the whole book and how Elie has grown from an innocent young boy to who is is at the young age of 15. How do the people Elie interacts with strengthen or diminish his hope and desire to live? Some people gave him strength like telling him that just give up and give me your bread and beating his father.

Talk about his father, Madame Schachter, Juliek (the violin player), the French girl, Rabbi Eliahou & his son, the Nazis.

Which of their actions touched you the most? Find at least 2 people and explain his relationship and how that person has influenced Elie.

Tell one person in your life that has strength your hopes, faith, or desire of life. Who has influenced you the most, how does this person do that? Which of their actions touch you the most? My father gives me strength and desire to make it in life cause i would be the first one in the family to really make something of myself.
